Stella participated in her second big recital in July with her dance studio. She absolutely loved her “creative movement” class and the opportunity to perform on a big stage in a pink and white tutu getup was pure icing on the cake for her. The recital is a pretty big time commitment, beyond the once a week classes we had a few Saturday rehearsals, picture day and then a solid four day marathon the week of the show with a tech rehearsal, dress rehearsal and two nights of performances. For the second year John and I volunteered to watch kids backstage which is pure chaos when it’s going smoothly. Being cooped up in a room with about 30 preschoolers is wink wink….just awesome.
This year the ballet was Storybook Land and Stella’s class was Little Boy Blue’s Sheep in the Meadow. Since the recital Stella has switched to an Acro class which she is loving and then in September she will start in the Hip Hop Class, which I am pretty excited for. We are also starting Jamboree Soccer and a new preschool, so lots of change and new adventures for Stella!
Summer so far. Here’s what we’ve been up to.
Fun day at Atlantis Play Center, we always love this place. The girls got to try out the splash pad for the first time too.
Hot summer nights at the Farmer’s Market
Park dates followed by fro-yo!
A dip in the pool and BBQ at Gigi & Grandpa’s.
Pajama Day at Preschool.
Four year check-up at the pediatrician, she says this kid is looking good!
Sleeping Beauty Week at Preschool. They are doing a Disney theme for the summer, highlighting a different movie each week and have activities and games planned around the theme. It’s been pretty cute, someone is a huge fan of the program.
Rehearsals for the big dance production. Lemonade for good behavior. Blog post on the recital coming soon.
Fourth of July. We went to a block/birthday party for one of Stella’s school buddies then on to BBQ and fireworks with at my Sister’s house. Great holiday!
Pageant of the Masters and an overnight date in Laguna Beach for my birthday. Annual tradition.
Breakfast at the diner with our “space cadet”. Love this cute tee which was a birthday gift from a friend who’s company called Indigo and Bloom sells on Etsy.
Swim lessons Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons all summer. She is getting very strong with her skills!
Concerts in the park.
Visit from CC! We are heading up to the Bay Area to visit her this month. Getting excited.
Baked pear from the garden with simple vanilla ice cream. Perfect summer dessert.
Trips to the park, wearing a dress that was once mine. I need to find a picture of me in this dress to show her! She’s also becoming quite the acrobat at the park, makes me nervous. We are switching to an Acro Class at her dance studio for the month of August. Maybe that will fill her need to tumble.
More fro-yo! Super Mario Brothers style.
Something called “the cloud” at Snow Monster, the new ice cream spot on 2nd Street. This is a scoop of ice cream with a cotton candy cloud over it. Pretty ridiculous.
Love my girl so much! Here’s to the rest of the summer. Hope it slows down a bit.
We celebrated Stella’s 4th Birthday at the park “Under the Sea” style including a visit from a very special guest, The Little Mermaid herself, Princess Ariel. Unlike her musical debut, Ariel actually showed up on time…LOL. Of course, Stella had a wonderful time with all of her friends from play group and school. We had a “tattoo parlor” and some great re-usable snack bags John’s mom made by hand as favors. So nice of her! We thought something that reduced plastic possibly getting out to sea worked well for the theme. They came out so perfectly cute. I filled them with some Pirate’s Booty, Tropical Fruit Snacks and a chocolate covered macadamia treat.
John really outdid himself on the food and it was fantastic. He made smoked pulled pork sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls with an array of homemade BBQ sauces, braised chicken, homemade mac (shells) and cheese rounded out with asian slaw salad and watermelon. For dessert, instead of making cupcakes as planned we got an Ariel cake from the grocery store. It was a bit of a fail in that the brown sugar that was supposed to be sand on the cake had liquified. Birthday girl did not notice though. I also made some cute clam shell with chocolate pearl cookies to round things out.
After lunch our very special guest, Princess Ariel came and spent about an hour with the kids reading her story, answering many, many questions, applying eye shadow and posing for photos. She brought a cute little crown for Stella which she presented during the cake ceremony. All in all a great party with friends and family and some gorgeous weather. I cannot believe Stella is FOUR! Here are some photos.
