Happy Halloween! Have you ever searched for vintage or Victorian Halloween Postcards? Some of them are really dark and creepy. Here I thought really morbid and scary was a newer phenomenon. I forgot the Victorians were super macabre. I am sure the fascination with ghouls and the like probably goes back to the cave men. Well, the one above is semi-cute, but still a little off. It’s the kids eyes I think.
We started our Halloween morning cheering on Molly at the local kindergarten Halloween Parade, nothing creepy there. 100% adorable Halloween, just how I like it. Stella LOVED it, she kept yelling “Molly, Molly, Molly”. Tonight we are going to my Sisters to take the three girls for a small trot of trick or treating. Stella says “trick treat” no “or”. I think Genna has it down clean. Surely a few neighbors will enjoy a peacock and a panda saying that.
Also, trying to be strong about the candy. It’s almost 1pm and not one piece yet! Since we will be out I didn’t get any and my sister is giving out stickers, so I will be safe there.
You are now sixteen big months old! I know I say this every time, but it’s going way too fast. It’s been a wonderful couple of months. I personally believe you are the busiest, wildest, spunkiest, funniest and cutest toddler on the planet. I don’t know how
you we do it all on soooooooooooooooo little sleep. Sleep is still a big challenge, we are also in nap limbo every day. Will it be one or two naps? Will you sleep through the night or wake up several times? It’s anyones guess.
You are a very chatty kid. You seem to add more and more to your vocabulary every hour. You are still a really good mimic and if you are in the mood will try to repeat almost any word I throw at you. You really cracked my friend Kellie and me up this weekend. We were driving in the car and she was emphatically telling a story and she said “seriously” a few times and sure enough from the back seat we hear your little voice saying “seriously”. You are all about animal sounds too and can pretty much get them right when I quiz you. My favorite word you are saying is “awesome”, you say it with such genuine enthusiasm, oh my it melts my heart.
You have also become a huge climber. You now want to get to the top of any play structure, chair or random piece of furniture in sight. We lowered your crib to the lowest setting last month and this week your Dad found you straddled on the railing of your crib. You were saying “oh no, oh no, oh no”. It’s only a matter of time before you figure that one out. We are cringing in anticipation.
Thank-you for another wonderful couple of months. Being your Mom is the best thing ever. You constantly amaze me and fill me with pride and joy. Your Dad too by the way. He took these pictures of you. We both adore you. Looking forward to a magical holiday season.
Mom & Dad
Last weekend Stella and I met up with my friend Jen and her adorable daughter Sasha for lunch and a trip to the Zoomars Petting Zoo. We had a pleasant lunch on the patio at Sarducci’s, which is right on the train tracks and then took a stroll through the Los Rios Historic District. I am embarrassed to say I did not even know that it was there. John and I got married around the corner at the El Adobe de Capistrano and took our wedding photos at the Mission San Juan Capistrano and we thought we had explored the whole area. It really is a charming area to walk around, shop and stop for lunch, especially if you have any interest in Spanish Missions or California history.
The Los Rios Historic District consists of a tree-lined, one lane street with neat old houses on either side that have been converted into a collection of restaurants, cafe’s and fun gift shops. There is a really nice park, with a great play structure, swings, picnic benches, etc for kids. The Zoomars Petting Zoo is also there. Stella had such a great time with Sasha. She loved the guinea pig, bunny and chicken cage the most. It was literally crawling with animals that the kids were allowed to carry, pet and feed (which kind of freaked me out a little bit, but we went with it). We also loved seeing the Alpaca’s, Llamas and Goats. It was pretty cute watching her feed carrots and lettuce to the animals. We will definitely be going back to this spot again.
